In the early years of the Park, intensive logging near highway 60 produced many young saplings that fed many wild whitetail deer. Now, more modern logging, far away from the tourist corridor means that the forest is more hospitable to moose. They are both a danger and a delight for motorists on the highway to observe. The ideal way to see moose is from a canoe in a lake far from the highway traffic.
