This is a scene you don't want to see on Hwy 60.
At 80 km/h it's hard to remember that the highway invades the forest, not the other way around.
Eager tourists can forget the highway is there as soon as they exit their cars. What did they see to make them stop?
And HOW did the first one to stop, see it?
Moose can be masters of camoflage.
But in the spring, they often find the salty water on the side of the highway attractive.
This is at the same time that their winter hair is shedding, making them distinctly "unattractive".
People forget that moose have their own schedules and reasons for wanting to cross the road.
This is the habitat that they want to be in, not on a highway.
In the summer, they look distinctly more sleek.
Food is plentiful and they can take time off to smell the flowers.
The males are not yet under the stress of the rutting season.
And the females can enjoy a salad lunch
While the calves can finally feed themselves.
