Turtles

painted turtle

The Labrador Lake marsh is a haven for turtles. Occasionally, snapping turtles leave the swampland looking for sandy soil to lay their eggs. Happily, one of those sandy spots is my front lawn. Close observation is very convincing that the species is older than the dinosaurs and almost unchanged in structure.
