Being flashed by a Heron??
It was October and he was using the late afternoon sun to dry out some feathers. ( I hope)
As I drifted toward him in a canoe, I got fairly close before he decided to get airborne.
For such a big bird, he was remarkably graceful in the air,
Wild turkeys visit from time to time.
They seem like small tanks as they walk.
The marsh is home to Redwinged Blackbirds... our harbingers of spring.
Bufflehead ducks use the lakes as a stopping-over spot on their migration routes.
The males never miss a chance to impress the ladies.
A goldeneye swims the other way to avoid any issues.

Kingfishers have always been elusive birds for me.
One afternoon in July, I drifted by a family reunion, of sorts.
It even included a family dust-up among three of them!
Finally, one of those belted kingfishers posed for a decent portrait.
A small RoughLegged (?) Hawk perched on a branch beside my canoe. He was intently watching a pair of loons with their chicks out in the lake. He left when he noticed me.
